Diana Rigg (1938-2020)

      Dear Duncan,

Thank you so much. I am deeply moved and sad about her departure to heaven, where she is, for sure.

Please help me if I am correct.. I remember so strongly an episode with FORESTRY of the avengers… Am I correct?
That episode woke up a lifelong love I feel for trees and for (sustainable) forestry… and deep respect for the work my very dear friend Betsy Green in Amsterdam (she is from Pittsburgh, Pennselvania, USA):

Same type: strong, independent, and reliable women… Diana Rigg we miss you terribly.

I’m afraid I’m not able to answer your question, as The Avengers is a TV series that I happen to know very little about. However, on the subject of trees and the environment you may be interested to learn, if you don’t already know, that the university which made Diana Rigg its chancellor is very green, by which I mean that not only is its campus located in a rural woodland setting (near the site of a key battlefield in the wars of Scottish independence) but its environmental science department made what I think were some rather early observations of developments which it identified as climate change. I certainly remember having a conversation with one of that department’s academic staff in the early 1980s in the course of which I first became aware of the concept of climate change and what it might eventually mean.

On the subject of thespians in universities, incidentally, there is a video of Dame Diana speaking at the Oxford Union, and here it is:

Personally, I have always had a great deal of respect for actors, as I admire their abilities greatly and have done ever since I went to the theatre for the very first time to see Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Glasgow Citizens Theatre in the early 1960s. To my surprise I once again came across a member of the cast of that performance, Edward Fox, when I joined an audience at a theatre in the Strand in London a couple of years ago to see an Oscar Wilde play and was astounded to observe that he was very little changed in outward appearance (at a distance, at least) and still performing superbly in his eighties as if it was all as easy as a walk in the park, which, of course, it is not. Actors are awe-inspiring, and each one is unique, as we all are.

Sor sorry Duncan… Diana already disappeared at the start of season 6 episode 1.. and had been succeeded by Linda Thorson as Tara King.. quite symbolically in the ¨The forget me (k)not¨..

Oups !

Beneath Rigg’s presumed tough carapace is something substantial – an actor with even more to give in her eighth decade. « I don’t want to retire, » she says. « I never want to retire. What’s the point of it? »

      1974 en HD, avec d’autres morceaux :

      Boycottez les ersatz : exigez l’original !

        @Paul
