In\u00a0my\u00a0most recent monthly column\u00a0in Le Monde\u00a0–\u00a0\u00c9conomie<\/a> \u2013 published\u00a0on May 9th,\u00a0I point out\u00a0the fact\u00a0that underlying the negotiations\u00a0held since 2008 in view of a financial overhaul, there\u00a0is an implicit\u00a0premise\u00a0that\u00a0the representatives of\u00a0the financial community have the\u00a0ability\u00a0of relating with\u00a0the common good. The period\u00a02007 to 2009 provides us however with sufficient evidence to falsify\u00a0such an\u00a0optimistic hypothesis.\u00a0I suggested in conclusion that\u00a0appropriate measures be implemented\u00a0now with no further consultation with\u00a0the financial community.<\/p>\n In his recent post entitled \u201cC\u2019est rat\u00e9!<\/a>\u201d Fran\u00e7ois Leclerc reports on the disastrous meeting of European finance ministers that was held on May 8th<\/sup> in Luxemburg. Since early last year, this was the\u00a0umpteenth\u00a0meeting\u00a0aiming at solving the\u00a0crisis\u00a0in\u00a0the euro zone.\u00a0It is\u00a0not without reason\u00a0that\u00a0Fran\u00e7ois\u00a0entitled his post: “Fiasco!\u201d\u00a0 And indeed he could have entitled his whole series of articles about\u00a0the\u00a0euro crisis:\u00a0“Fiasco!\u201d from the first one to number 14th<\/sup>. As\u00a0with\u00a0the case of the financial overhaul, the time\u00a0has come to\u00a0draw the\u00a0conclusion that the negotiating partners have no ability for\u00a0solving\u00a0the problems of the hour:\u00a0opportunities\u00a0for finding\u00a0a solution did exist in sufficient number and they were all allowed to go. Nothing has been achieved but delaying\u00a0until 2013 the time for a solution\u00a0\u2013\u00a0still very shaky in its terms\u00a0\u2013because of the various balloting concerns of each of the governments involved.<\/p>\n
