Paul Jorion is holder of the Chair “Stewardship of Finance” at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, he is also a columnist at Le Monde-Économie and a member of Jacques Attali’s study group on the positive economy. He is a Doctor in the Social Sciences from the Free University Brussels. He holds MAs in sociology and social anthropology. He’s lectured at the universities of Brussels, Cambridge, Paris VIII and at the University of California at Irvine. He was at one time a United Nations Officer (FAO), working on development projects in Africa.

Paul Jorion worked in the American financial world as a pricing specialist from 1998 to 2007. Prior to this he was at one time a trader on the futures markets in a French investment bank. He wrote a book on the consequences for the stock market of the bankruptcy of Enron: Investing in a Post-Enron World (McGraw-Hill 2003).

In a book published in 2007, La crise du capitalisme américain (La Découverte 2007; Le Croquant 2009), Paul Jorion predicted in a detailed account the looming subprime crisis. More recently he has published L’implosion. La finance contre l’économie: ce que révèle et annonce « la crise des subprimes » (Fayard 2008), La crise. Des subprimes au séisme financier planétaire (Fayard 2008), L’argent, mode d’emploi (Fayard 2009), Comment la vérité et la réalité furent inventées (Gallimard 2009), a book in the history and philosophy of sciences, Le prix (Le Croquant 2010), Le capitalisme à l’agonie (Fayard 2011) and La guerre civile numérique (Textuel 2011). He has also published Misère de la pensée économique (Fayard 2012) and La survie de l’espèce, a graphic novel with Grégory Maklès (Futuropolis 2012).

His most recent books are Comprendre les temps qui sont les nôtres (Odile Jacob 2014) and Penser l’économie autrement, with Bruno Colmant (Fayard 2014).
